"Annihilation: Whew! What a relief. Bring it on!"Hi gang,
I was just thinking what a RELIEF the idea of annihilation would be to oblivion-desiring, pain-wracked basketcases such as yours truly...IF...God were really an Annihilator of His offspring.
For example...
What if some religious smiley face had come to me in my earlier years of manic suicidal depression and debilitating addiction and said, "Jesus loves you BUT He will annihilate you if you fail to make wise choices to love and serve Him in this life time" etc.?
My response would have been, "Whew! What a relief. I can't love a god that demands my love on the threat of getting rid of me forever. I've lived all my life under that kind of pressure from people who demanded that I PERFORM CORRECTLY--or else! Thanks, for the warning, pal. I'll gladly check out. The sooner your little religious god annihilates me, the better! Take your 'good news' of your demanding 'Jesus' and stick it in your ear--or else--dump it on another sadomasochist like yourself!"
My point?
The annihilationist "Jesus" just doesn't inspire love or trust for God--or real hope--in the heart of a shattered person who filled with pain and is already yearning for blissful non-being.
Has anyone noticed that besides me?
Besides, why would I want to be in "heaven" with this high-pressuring "Jesus" and all the other (performance-based "love") smiley-faced religious people? Especially when my other fellow shoddy-performance basketcases--who can only survive with a God whose love is *TRULY* UNconditional--won't be there anyhow?
Keep letting the good news of the Successful Savior of the world hang out, gang!
You have hope for basketcases who can't hope in a god of conditional (active and meaningful) love that supposedly expects them to hope in their success rate of achieving wise and timely choices. Universal Reconciliation in Jesus Christ is TRULY good news to the brokenhearted. No other "gospel" on the market offers the hope this one does for those who CANNOT hope in themselves.
This is the good news that caused me to fall head-over-heels in love with God, and as a result, CHANGED my behaviour and life. It is the good news that *energizes* me to love and serve Him. But most of you already know that. Hehe... Just think! When you get to be a grandpa you can repeat yourself too...

CharlieP.S. Sadomasochism equates pain with "love." The message, "Love me, or else I will burn you into oblivion!" fits the bill, whaddayathink? It is a message that only a sadomasochistic temperament would find "stimulating"--if SERIOUSLY believed, I mean... But to be honest, all the annihilationists whom I've ever met don't actually believe it. They just spout the theory off on occasions while they live blissfully and joyfully just as universalists Christians do--as though they ACTUALLY believed that God will ALWAYS prove to be more reliable than they are. Anyone noticed that besides me?
