Christmas Carols From Hell

I posted this elsewhere, on the religioustolerance.org forums, I wanted to post it here as well, being a huge fan of tentmaker.

For those who don't know me well, I've been on these boards off and on for years, and I'm what they call, a universalist Christian.

I'm a Christian who does not believe in hell. I believe, instead, that Christ is the savior of the world (John
4:42), the ransom for all, to be testified in due time (1 Timothy 2:6) whose righteousness covers all mankind (Romans 5:18, et. al.)

Yesterday, while I was putting up my Christmas tree with my wife and daughter, I was listening to Christmas carols. It occurred to me that many of the lyrics of these Christmas carols were universalistic, though few Christians seem to know about the doctrine of universal salvation. They've been so entrenched in the doctrines they've been taught from childhood, they simply accept them. Yet they sing the Christmas carols, not thinking of those doctrines.

In my mind, for fun, I started re-writing some of those Christmas carols putting them in line with the doctrines that many Christians believe -- the doctrine of hell.

To me, hell is a false and horrific doctrine. But if it's the doctrine they believe, why do they hide it? Why not incorporate it into their songs, why not teach it in their churches?

Here's one Christmas carol, re-written to put it in line with the conservative doctrine of hell.

Peace -- to all!
And God bless us all -- everyone!

"Joy To The Few"

Joy to the few the Lord is come
Let them receive their King
Let redeemed hearts prepare Him room
And all the rest shall burn
And all the rest shall burn
And all, and all the rest shall burn

Joy to the few, the Anger reigns
His fearful sword employ
While smoke and fire
Of torment and pains
The sound of gnashing teeth
The sound of gnashing teeth
The sound, the sound of gnashing teeth

He rules the few with truth and grace
And brings the rest to pain
The horrors of His righteous wrath
And everlasting pain
And everlasting pain
And ever, and ever lasting pain

Joy to the few the Lord is come
Let them receive their King
Let redeemed hearts prepare Him room
And all the rest shall burn
And all the rest shall burn
And all, and all the rest shall burn

You, asked for it.. you got it!

Hark, the herald angels sing

 Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Fear Him now, the newborn King;
Believers will His mercy find,
The rest can not be reconciled!”
Fearful, all ye nations rise,
Dread the wrath come from the skies;
With th’foreboding host proclaim,
“Christ will come, and you He'll damn!”

Refrain

Hark! The herald angels sing,
“Fear Him now, the newborn King;

Christ, by highest Heav’n afeared;
Christ the ever vengeful King;
Late in time, behold Him come,
Locks them in hell's fearful tomb.
Burning flesh, it bring's God glee;
Angry wrathful Deity,
With God they will never dwell,
Jesus sends them off to hell.

Refrain

Damned they are, they find no Peace!
Angry Sun of Righteous Rage!
Fire and pain to most He brings,
Nev’r healing evil things.
Riled He smites them, they will cry,
Sees that they will surely die.
Strikes them till no more are left,
Burns them in the second death.

Refrain

In burning pain, the nations groan,
In their everlasting home;
Hell, where demon power will feed,
The teeth all gnashing in your head.
God withholds His saving power,
Ruined now, forever more;
Never God, with Him to join
Heaven is ours, and hell is Thine.

Refrain

Adam’s sin, rubbed in your face
God will put you in your place:
Fearful wrath come from above,
They will never have His love.
Never will, the lost, regain,
Lost the Life, the inner man:
O, from them, God will depart,
Lost from ev'ry condemned heart.

Refrain
