Putting Hebrews 10:26 back into context.

: I'm going over the articles (gotten farther today), but when cross-referencing some of the references in the text I came across this vs. Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
: And I am reminded that there is so much more talk about God's displeasure with "counterfeit Christians" than He is with the world as a whole, it seems. When you look at the vs. of the parable of the seeds, 10 virgins, wheat and the tares, and then several vs. in Hebrews, it becomes a study in itself, what will actually determine a "true" Christian. If there is no more sacrifice for sins, how could Christ's grace be extended whether in this life or the next one? And what fire can be expected for those who don't merit to be known by Jesus in this life?
: Oh and thanks for the info about the translations, I just ordered my Rotherman's and it should be here in a couple of days. I couldn't find my Amplified to answer the questions, something else that I have packed away! Sincerely :)

 Tentmaker:
We Christians make a big mistake when we take a letter written to a specific people during a specific crisis about to happen to them and then apply it to our own lives. First of all, this letter was written to Jews, NOT Gentiles. And Jews specifically who were born under the Old Covenant, had come into the Christian community, persecution became severe (Nero) and were now going back to the Mosaic Covenant. The temple was still standing and the animal sacrifices were still going on for atonement of sins. The writer of Hebrews warned these JEWS, NOT gentiles, that the Law was about to be forever destroyed, the covenant would be anulled and the only place for forgiveness of sins would be in the New Covenant of Jesus Christ. This verse simply told Jews who were abandoning their faith that there would shortly be NO ATONEMENT OF ANY KIND under the Mosaic Covenant. And shortly after this letter was written, the Temple was destroyed, the priesthood was destroyed, Jerusalem was destroyed proving that what the writer of Hebrews (most scholars think it was Paul) said was true. All the writer of Hebrews was saying that what once worked for Jews, will no longer work. Your conscience will NOT get clean from killing lambs...only THE LAMB can take away the sin of the world. #####, I have a lengthy article on that subject on our internet site somewhere, but I gather you like it short, so this is a short version of it. Hope that helps. Keep asking the questions. You have a good heart and your heavenly Father will richly bless your persistence. Don't let the fear of man (husband and pastor) keep you from the truth. THAT is Satan's biggest weapon. That is why Jesus said unless you hate your mother, father, sister, brother, even your own life more than Him, that we cannot be His disciples. These other forces prevent us from entering the kingdom of His truth. Fear locks us out. May the Lord give you great boldness to pursue Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.
Peace and love to you, Gary
