On the practical side again, "legalism" so-called is the only option......

.......if you take your own sinfulness seriously--and--take the
dogma of never-ending punishment SERIOUSLY.

It is VERY foolish to call watchful and painstaking
obedience "legalism", if Unfailing Holy Love plans to
write off billions of His own offspring--many professing
Christians included. Those whom you would call "legalists"
on this board are the HONEST advertizers of these glad
tidings. And what of those who "believe" that Unfailing
Love plans to get rid of most people and yet seldom if
ever preach it or seriously consider it in their everyday
lives? There can be only the following conclusions:

(1) They are closet universalists. For they merely
"believe" in hopeless damnation by way of giving it mental
assent as a "point of orthodoxy"--but they don't ACTUALLY
believe it and live under the "light (?) burden" of it in
their everyday lives.
(2) They are (unconsciously) convinced that THEIR "little"
sins of ommission and "private, internal" sins
aren't really serious enough to derail them from receiving
the "gift" (?) of their "heavenly reward."  For example,
it's okay to "covet" fairly often to disobey the Lord--as
long as that which is inwardly coveted doesn't "show up"
EXTERNALLY. Especially in public view.
(3) They bank on being once-saved-always-saved, bless'em,
and keep the negatives inherent in that cozy little
doctrine mentally "back filed." And the negatives are that
many will apparantly THINK they had the "witness in
themselves" because they once said "Lord, Lord." However,
the heart is desperatly wicked, who (but God) can know it? And only
a fool trusts in his own heart, the Bible assures us. Uh Oh! Matthew 7:18-23 therefore is kept convieniently compartmentalized away
in their mental back files.
However, some "eternally secure" folks are quite happy to
preach that passage to OTHERS, aren't they?

Just a reminder... If you--actually do--believe that God
plans to get rid of most people, you CANNOT be too
careful. And no, I am NOT advocating "legalism." I am
talking about OBEDIENCE.  I'm smiling, but I could not
be more serious.
