a great answer to eternal tormentists

Posted by Tony Nungesser
Someone kept telling me that since some of the ancient Greeks and those in Jesus's day said that what is an Aion (eon) or (age) can mean eternal. So we should import that idea into our bibles when it comes to God's judgments of the wicked that they will be tormented for eternity.

A good...no a great answer to this faulty reasoning is this:

The Greeks had their idea of what Theos (Greek for "God") meant. To them it could be a multi-breasted deity, or a monster, or a ruler or even inanimate objects such as wood or statues made of gold etc. So I ask them, Why don't you just import that idea into our Bible as well, since the Greeks had those ideas of Theos we should accept their pagan ideas of what "God" is like too.

They want us to accept the Greek pagan ideas of aion/aionios so why not go all the way and believe that God is a multi-breasted deity and is a ruler (human) and maybe an inanimate object?

That stops them in their tracks.

People, the Bible says that the eons have a beginning and an end. It NEVER states that any eon or age is endless...NEVER!

God will never torment anyone for eternity. He is the Saviour of all mankind and wills that all mankind be saved and come into a realization of the truth (1Tim.2:4-6; 1Tim.4:10).

Amen!
