The Truth About Hell

I’ve been a zealous Christian for over 20 years of my life. Running a couple of Internet sites dealing with getting at the simplicity of the gospel of the early believers in Christ in a full-time position and having edited a Christian Magazine has given me much knowledge in many fields in the Christian community. I’ve been in hundreds of different churches and talked with countless Christian leaders. And I’ve come to the following conclusion: Christians as a whole are among the most gullible people on the face of the earth perpetuating myths and lies and half-truths without really checking into the facts. Because lacking “faith” is considered something which may send one to Christendom’s favorite place to talk about (Hell), we are perfect candidates for believing and putting our “faith” into some of the most ridiculous beliefs imaginable, especially among those who think they are really students of the Bible. I know – I personally was a perpetuator of many of these myths myself. Here’s one typical example for this brief article:

There are a number of Christian sites that repeat an urban legend about scientists supposedly having dug into Hell itself and heard voices of people there. They even have an audio tape that supposedly recorded voices coming from the center of the earth. Here is one link which carries this tape. It is “Dial-the-truth Ministries.” It is run by members of a Fundamentalist church. There are no names of people who run the site. I can understand that. If I authored some of the nonsense found on this site, I wouldn’t want to associate my name with it either:

Several journalists have traced this story back to its sources. It’s an urban legend. It’s a fraud. It’s made up. It’s NOT TRUE. Here are some links which trace the origin of this lie.

Surely, the owners of Christian web sites around the globe that promote this information are aware of the articles above. I’m sure Terry Watkins, the author of the page “Yes, There Is a Place Called Hell” on the http://www.av1611.org/ site has this information, but his love for a god of vengeance is so great, he is not willing to give it up. You see, dear reader, most Christians who believe in a God who will endlessly torture most of mankind believe in such a god because they have vengeance in their hearts that they are projecting onto an image in their minds they call god. They, themselves wouldn’t do to other human beings what their god is going to do to them. Their “god” is much worse than any human being that ever walked this planet. I think the greatest lie ever planted into the human mind is the teaching of Hell. I say this as a conservative Christian who has received the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth.

Do you think they would do a little research themselves so they can discover for themselves that they are just perpetuating myths and lies? No! They keep this false information going to help perpetuate the myth of Hell. Large organizations like PTL (Praise The Lord Network) who had people on shows stating this story is true, do you think they would post a disclaimer to the shows they aired which featured this lie? No!

Over the years, I’ve seen this time and time again. For example, a preacher passes on a story about how the Lord used them or a member of their organization to raise someone from the dead over in Africa or some other mission field. They put the story in their sermons or maybe a newsletter. They might even mention the name of the person who was raised from the dead. I have personally tried to follow up on two of these stories myself. If the story was true, I planned to write about it in Dew Magazine/ezine. Each time the leadership stonewalled me. I couldn’t get any information. Tell me, if you were instrumental in raising someone from the dead, don’t you think you would keep all the information surrounding the story so others could find out if it was really true to help others build their faith? The person who was raised. Wouldn’t they want to tell the story? If a doctor was involved, wouldn’t he/she want to tell the story? But in the two cases I tried to investigate, it was obvious to me, the reason the pastors involved and the officials at the churches I tried to interview did not want to discuss the details with me is because the story was a lie. Do I believe God can raise the dead? Yes. Do I believe God can use human beings to raise the dead? Yes. But I will NOT pass on a story about someone being raised from the dead if the story is false. We, Christians, are MUCH too quick to pass on total fabrications or half-truths thinking we serve God by doing so. We do NOT serve God by doing so; we serve the father of lies by doing so. We must STOP IT.

In conclusion, I say to Terry Watkins and the many other thousands of deceived authors of books, tapes, videos, internet sites etc. who perpetuate horrible myths about the God of all Creation who will redeem all mankind in His own time – I say to you – “Yes, there is a place called Hell.” And it is located in the place in your minds reserved for nonsense, delusions, myths, fables, fantasies, falsehoods, lies, distortions, propaganda, deranged ideas, and seeds of thought from Satan. “ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind;” (Eph. 4:22-23)

“Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:” (Col. 3:9-10)

The Bible recorded thousands of years ago, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6 We will continue to be destroyed if we continue to fill our minds with lies instead of “studying to show ourselves approved.” Get the truth; get the facts and stop with the lies!
