Spirit of the Word - Covenant Eschatology - New Stuff
Web Editor NoteWelcome to the site.
On here you will see two very different interpretations of eschatology, both of which I think are quite valid. The more literal, earthly, letter-of-the-word fulfillment is sometimes labeled as either Covenant Eschatology, Realized Fulfillment, or Preterism (whether 'full' or mostly full). The view here is that either most or all (depending on who you read) eschatology that wasn't fulfilled going into and in the earlier first century was fulfilled in and around 70AD, with the events revolving around the fall of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple there.
Personally I've had most of the other major views before, Premill. Dispensationalism (pre trib. then post trib.), some historical Historicist Amill. views, Postmillenialism, very limited Preterism, and now from a letter-of-the-word point of view see a much more preteristic interpretation, which is really nothing more than the original context.
Unfortunately, in much of Preterism the eschatology passages are often presented as just first-century history, and at times will leave the reader wondering what may be applicable for us today. This is where the Spirit of the Word writers come in, as many of them see deeper Spiritual truths that would apply to us here and now.
Sometimes those with one of these views will disagree with the other, as you may end up seeing if you read enough of this site, but then that doesn't make a bit of difference to me because as mentioned above I see both being true, and even complementing each other.
Many people believe there are both 'literal' AND 'Spiritual' interpretations to the Biblical eschatology and on this site there are both, so knock yourself out.
On another note, I'm spending less and less time on the Web and may go offline altogether for awhile, which is why this is on an independent server as opposed to an ISP site, so if you have any comment on the writings you're best bet would be to write directly to the authors (if you can find them). If you just have to write me I'll leave an e-mail address on here, but if you want a response it may be a l o n g time in coming.
